AmePower has developed a highly efficient converter for fully electric locomotives, maximizing energy and increasing reliability. Enabling these electric locomotives with the advanced technology needed to sustain operations well into the future and support these zero emissions fleets to accelerate decarbonization.

Technical Information

  • Output power: Up to 2.4 MW

  • Output voltage: 0–1100 VDC (AC output is also available)

  • Able to reach up to 65mph (105km/h)

  • Performance tested with loads up to 2,500 tons

  • Regenerative braking back to the battery, effective at speeds as low as 3 mph

  • According to performance data, AmePower's Hybrid locomotive solutions achieve a 50% reduction in fuel consumption

DECARBONIZING CLASS I DIESEL-ELECTRIC FLEET THROUGH HYBRIDIZATION

AmePower's patent-pending hybridization technology is a rapid and viable path to decarbonization and electrification of diesel-electric fleet. This sustainable approach re-uses existing fleet by retrofitting the locomotives with minimal modifications and innovative power conversion methods utilizing smart technology.

Not only does AmePower's hybridization solution prove cost efficient as new fleet does not need to be purchased, added infrastructure to support the electric function is minimal due to its novel design. 

A VIABLE PATHWAY
TO LOCOMOTIVE DECARBONIZATION

Central to this approach the integration of advanced smart power converters, and a standard sized container as an energy source solution in a tender car.  AmePower’s hybrid approach maintains the original structure of the locomotive intact and provides peace of mind to railway operators with the option to utilize the locomotive in standard diesel-mode if necessary.

FUTURE-PROOF TECHNOLOGY

This concept utilizes energy source systems in conjunction with an upgraded smart power converter to offer multiple types of energy sources to power the locomotive, including hybrid battery-electric and/or hydrogen, among others. Additionally, the energy source could be combined with other solutions including biodiesel fuels. AmePower's innovative hybridization technology is designed for adaptability and versatility as market conditions change and technology advances. Hybridized fleet can easily integrate these new technologies including future battery chemistry etc.
